The Beryllium test is used to monitor the levels of beryllium in the blood or urine of these workers, ensuring compliance with occupational safety regulations and assessing the effectiveness of exposure control measures.

Conditions that may require Beryllium Test

The Beryllium test may be required in the following conditions:

Occupational Exposure to Beryllium: Workers in industries such as aerospace, electronics, nuclear facilities, and metal manufacturing may be exposed to beryllium dust or fumes. Regular monitoring of beryllium levels in these workers can help assess the effectiveness of exposure control measures and ensure compliance with occupational safety regulations.
Beryllium Sensitization: Some individuals may develop an immune response to beryllium particles, leading to a condition called beryllium sensitization. This can occur in individuals who have had prolonged or repeated exposure to beryllium. Testing for beryllium-specific immune responses, such as lymphocyte proliferation tests or beryllium lymphocyte transformation tests (BeLTT), can help identify beryllium sensitization.
Chronic Beryllium Disease (CBD): Chronic beryllium disease is a lung condition characterized by inflammation and scarring caused by exposure to beryllium. The Beryllium test, including blood or urine tests for beryllium, may be used in the diagnostic workup of individuals suspected of having CBD. It helps to assess the body burden of beryllium and support the clinical diagnosis.

Beryllium Test Procedure

The Beryllium Test is a simple blood test that can be performed in a laboratory. Before the test, the patient may be asked to avoid certain medications that may affect the results. During the test, our healthcare professional will use a needle to draw blood from a vein in the patient's arm. The blood sample will then be sent to our laboratory for analysis.
